Wix, WordPress or your own website: what they cost and how they differ
Short answer: if you build the site yourself and want the service to handle the technology, Wix or a website builder is the easiest start. WordPress suits you when you want a site that can be moved and extended and you are ready to keep it updated. A site built for you makes sense when your time is worth more than the monthly fee, or you need booking and several languages ready from day one.
This page only uses prices the providers publish themselves. They were checked on 26 September 2026; some exclude VAT and some include it, and each row says which.
What do Wix, Webnode, Kotisivukone and WordPress cost?
| Platform and plan | Published price | Online booking | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Webnode Standard | €7.90/month + VAT, yearly billing | not mentioned in price list | webnode.com |
| Webnode Profi | €14.20/month + VAT, yearly billing | not mentioned in price list | webnode.com |
| Wix Light | $17/month + taxes, yearly billing | not included | wix.com |
| Kotisivukone, for businesses | €22.20/month incl. VAT, yearly contract | not mentioned in price list | kotisivukone.fi |
| Wix Core | $29/month + taxes, yearly billing | included | wix.com |
| Wix Business | $39/month + taxes, yearly billing | included | wix.com |
| WordPress on your own hosting, e.g. Zoner Startti | €1.00/month first year, then €12.90/month, excl. VAT | with a plugin | zoner.fi |
Wix shows USD reference prices and states that price and currency vary by location, so the final price in Finland only appears at checkout. Webnode also has a cheaper Mini plan at €5.50/month + VAT and Limited at €3.10/month + VAT, with fewer features.
Wix or WordPress: what is the real difference?
The difference is not how the site looks. It is where the site lives.
Wix is a rented service. You build the site with Wix's tools and it runs only on Wix's servers. According to Wix's help centre, a site cannot be exported to another host, because Wix is a SaaS service and its architecture does not support external hosting. The domain can be moved away, but the site has to be rebuilt elsewhere. In return, Wix handles updates, security and the server.
WordPress is software you can install on any web host. It is the most widely used content management system in the world: according to W3Techs, WordPress runs 40.2% of all websites (26 September 2026). The site can be moved from one host to another, and plugins add almost any feature. The price of that freedom is maintenance: WordPress and every plugin need regular updates, and if nobody does them, the site ages.
Put simply: with Wix you pay so you never have to think about the technology. With WordPress you get freedom, but someone has to think about the technology.
Webnode or Wix?
Both are website builders where you make the site in a browser without code. Webnode's published prices are clearly lower: Standard is €7.90/month + VAT with yearly billing, while Wix's cheapest paid plan is $17/month + taxes.
For a service business, the key difference is booking. Wix includes it in the Core plan and above. Webnode's price list does not mention booking, so you need a separate service for it. We collected the published prices of Finnish booking systems on their own page. The same goes for the Finnish Kotisivukone: its price list does not mention booking either.
What do three years cost?
A monthly price says little on its own, so we worked out three years of platform costs at published prices.
| Option | How it adds up | Three years | Who builds the site |
|---|---|---|---|
| Webnode Standard | 36 × €7.90 | €284.40 + VAT | you |
| WordPress, Zoner Startti | 12 × €1.00 + 24 × €12.90 | €321.60 + VAT, plus theme, plugins and developer | you or a developer |
| Kotisivukone, for businesses | 36 × €22.20 | €799.20 incl. VAT | you |
| Wix Core, booking included | 36 × $29 | $1,044 + taxes | you |
| ProfitSite Business, booking included | €1,290 + domain €10–30 a year | €1,320–1,380 incl. VAT | us |
To be straight about it: if you build the site yourself, the platform is cheaper over three years than a commissioned site. But the table does not include your own time, and the Webnode and Kotisivukone rows do not include booking. Add a booking system's monthly fee and the gap narrows. If you have a developer build a WordPress site, a multi-page company site typically costs €700–2,500 + VAT in Finland (website price guide).
When does each one make sense?
Webnode or Kotisivukone when you need an online business card, you build it yourself and clients call or send a message. The cheapest way to be visible.
Wix when you build the site yourself and need booking in the same place. Accept that the site stays on Wix.
WordPress when you want to grow the site over the years, you or your developer have time for updates, and you want to be able to switch hosts.
A site built for you when you do not want to spend evenings building a website, you need booking and several languages ready, and you want the code to be yours. This is what we do, and our prices and contents are on the small business website page.
What if your site is already on Wix or Webnode?
That is not a mistake. Many businesses start with a website builder, and it makes sense while the business is getting going. When you hit the template's limits, it is worth moving to a site of your own.
A Wix site cannot be exported as it is, so moving means rebuilding: the texts, images and structure go to the new site, and the domain is pointed there. With us, migration from a website builder to your own site costs €690. Before you pay anything, we build a free preview so you can see what the site would look like.
See your own site before you decide
We build a free preview with your business name and services. You can compare it side by side with your current Wix or Webnode site, and the preview does not commit you to anything.
